Aircraft components can encounter significant temperature changes throughout operation. Electrical systems, motors, generators, actuators, and other components may also generate heat of their own, making temperature performance an important consideration when selecting materials.

Depending on the application, aerospace manufacturers may need high-temperature magnet wire, electrical insulation, tapes, resins, and thermal management materials.

For example, magnet wire used in motors, generators, actuators, and other electromagnetic components may require an insulation system designed for the application's operating temperature. Flexible electrical insulation materials can be used to help electrically isolate components, while electrical tapes can provide insulation, wrapping, holding, or protection within an assembly. Resins can also become part of an electrical insulation system, depending on the design.

Thermal management materials can be especially important around electronics, power systems, and other heat-generating components where managing heat is critical to overall performance.

The material itself may also need customization. A manufacturer may need insulation slit to a specific width, sheets cut to an exact dimension, custom shapes created for electrical components, or multiple materials laminated together.

Essex Brownell can custom cut and slit insulation based on customer specifications, helping manufacturers receive materials in a format that's ready for their application.
