Benefits of Working with ELANTAS' Emulsions

Benefits of Working with ELANTAS' Emulsions: Explore ELANTAS ELAN-Guard® EM 59-60MR

ELANTAS is a leading manufacturer of liquid insulation used for the electrical and electronics industries. Essex Brownell has a long-standing partnership with ELANTAS and is proud to be a recommended distributor. To kick off Part I of our ELANTAS Series, we're examining the benefits of emulsions, specifically ELANTAS’ ELAN-Guard® EM 59-60MR.

ELANTAS’ ELAN-Guard® EM 59-60MR is a single-component, waterborne epoxy emulsion used for dip and bake or roll through applications. This emulsion is widely used by the motor repair markets and by original equipment hermetic manufactures. There are multiple clear benefits associated with using ELAN-Guard® EM 59-60MR.

To start off, more employers are becoming aware of the risks associated with VOCs, making emulsions a great option to aid in improving workplace conditions. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are the gasses emitted into the environment from certain liquids and solids. VOCs can mix with natural gasses causing pollution. Not only are VOCs harmful to the environment, but they can be harmful to employees. Risks from VOCs can include both short-term and long-term negative health effects. Emulsions are environmentally friendly with little to no VOCs. ELANTAS’ ELAN-Guard® EM 59-60MR is UL listed for safety standards and hermetic applications.

In addition to emulsions being better for the environment and employee’s health, they provide added safety because of their flash point rating (greater than 200°F). The flashpoint is the temperature when vapors can ignite. Typically, flashpoints below 100°F are considered flammable. As a low volatile product, emulsions don’t produce flammable vapor, which contributes to exceptional tank stability.

ELANTAS’ ELAN-Guard® EM 59-60MR also has excellent penetration. This water-based epoxy has a low viscosity allowing it to flow better and penetrate your application completely. The emulsions offer great bond strength, as well. Separation during the dip process should not happen, provided all the proper steps are followed. Once your application is removed from the emulsions, there is very little run off.

Finally, emulsions are considered low maintenance. Adjustments are minimal and straightforward. The only reducer you might need is deionized water. Stirring regularly will help keep the emulsion from separating and prevent your tank from going bad. Replenishing as necessary will help maintain the end properties of the resin. If you need help adjusting, you can send in a tank sample or contact your Essex Brownell Representative.

With limited maintenance, excellent tank stability, great product penetration, bond strength, and its environmentally friendly properties, you can see why ELANTAS’ ELAN-Guard® EM 59-60MR offers several great benefits.

In our next blog post, we will explore tank maintenance. Stay tuned!
